Small Hobo Bag Sample

This is a bag that I’ve gone round and round as to how to come up with a smaller bag that provides enough room to carry your camera along with the usual purse essentials.  Originally, I had designed and offered a bag very similar to both the large and medium hobo bags available now.    But with that bag, you ended up with something too tiny to hold much else.  I don’t know about you, but I’m not into carrying more bags than necessary.    The main requirement for my daily bag  is that it needs to big enough to hold my own personal belongings, camera (along with extra batteries/memory cards/etc) and then everything that my kids have to bring to along every trip out the door but just can’t seem to carry on their own for more than 5 minutes.   I’m sure some of you out there feel me on that one.

So this bag fit that bill.  You have room for a small insert…approx 10/11″ W (side to side) x 5″ D (front to back) x 8″ H.  So the big body cameras might have a difficult squeeze in this one.  But you can fit a small/med size DSLR easily along with a spare lens.   If you go with the slightly longer insert (11″) you can possibly squeeze in a kindle, nook or iPad.  The pocket would be long enough to accommodate any of those.  I say possibly only because the depth of your camera may effect the packing possibilities.

Tons of pockets in the interior.  One large snap closure pocket along one side, two small slip pockets & a large zipper pocket along the other.  With insert inside the bag, you still have additional storage on either side of it.  That’s the part I like because it gives me room for all the “stuff” that accumulates in my bag.  Now if you only carry the insert it will slide some inside the bag, but it will settle in the middle when you pick up the bag. ( The insert shown in the photos is only 9″ W)

This particular bag is sewn with a waxed canvas center to help prevent any seepage if it’s accidentally set it down in a wet spot.  But if you were carrying camera gear in an insert, it’s made from waterproof nylon so it’s safe either way.  And the zipper runs almost the entire length of the top so you get full access to everything inside.

I’ll have a few more in process soon and may possibly offer this one as a custom bag for a short time.  The large sides give you an opportunity to get really creative with pattern and style.   Anyone interested in a custom one, please let me know.

  1. Oooh, I love it! I love my sparrow, but it would be cool to carry my camera and some other stuff you may need on an outing. Great idea – great design!

  2. Thanks Heather!! I should have it available as a custom within the next week. Going to do a little more testing with the sample bag.
